Music, Rock and indie

Poppy indie-rock mainstays Pinback might seem 180 degrees removed from the dazzling virtuosity of outfits like Battles, but at its best, the San Diego crew's music is only slightly less architecturally ornate. The soaring hooks of singer-songwriters Rob Crow and Zach Smith keep the long-running band—touring in support of its fifth full-length, which has unusual emotional resonance—sounding warm, even when its arrangements tilt toward the brainily angular. Sharing the bill tonight is Deathfix, a proggy, retro-leaning D.C. art-pop band that includes Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty—handling guitar and vocals here—and Rich Morel, Bob Mould's partner in his Blowoff venture.
