Portland indie band Typhoon creates "death-affirming" and big-hearted post-pop indie rock a la Arcade Fire and Bright Eyes, but they cheekily list their references as David Beckham and Bill Murray. Lead singer/songwriter Kyle Morton dealt with serious illness and channeled his resulting ambivalence about life into the group's most recent album—and most ambitious to date—White Lighter, which was recorded on a farm in the Oregon town of Happy Valley. Hear the band's musings at the El Rey, with Echo Park indie band Line & Circle opening.
