Yellow Ostrich is equal parts Vampire Weekend's sharp-angled pop and Andrew Bird's whimsical multitasking. The horn-happy Barsuk-signed Brooklyn indie pop crew is led by Alex Schaaf—he started the band as a solo project when he was 21. Schaaf delved into the work of astronomers as background for latest album Cosmos—out Feb. 25—and named the work after Carl Sagan's 1980 PBS series. Expect more of the band's guitar-driven rock, but combined this time around with dreamy electronic arrangements. Pattern is Movement and Thumpers will open this Echo show.
