Francesca Lia Block

As a child, writer Francesca Lia Block (Weetzie Bat, The Rose and the Beast: Fairy Tales Retold) was fascinated by Greek mythology and fairy tales. As an adult, Block writes novels she describes as "contemporary fairy tales with an edge." Her latest book, The Elementals, goes beyond the typical coming-of-age story about a Los Angeles girl and her few years away at UC Berkeley to include an unexplained disappearance and a strange old house in the hills inhabited by three mysterious, beautiful and seductive young people.
