Time Out says

If Questlove wants to invite us over for a dinner party, we’re available. If not, his new book is the next best thing.

The Roots frontman, percussionist, DJ, producer and all-around encyclopedia of music isn’t just an authority on sound—he also happens to be one of the biggest food-knowledge advocates in the entertainment world. He’s launched food symposiums and even co-authored a James Beard Award-nominated book—something to food about: Exploring Creativity with America’s Most Innovative Chefs—and now he’s back with his first cookbook, and it’s all about the most fun you can have at a potluck.

Think of the new Mixtape Potluck as a kind of dinner-party guide where the recipes come from “guests” such as Fred Armisen, Q-Tip, Natalie Portman, Martha Stewart, Eric Warheim and Maya Rudolph.

To celebrate the book’s launch one of our favorite shops in the city, Now Serving, is throwing a Q&A event where Questlove, Sqirl/Onda chef Jessica Koslow and L.A. Times food editor Peter Meehan take over the Million Dollar Theater for an evening of talk and tunes.

Sound good? You can use code “NEEDS MORE ACID” (three words, no quotes) to get 10 percent off entry, and each ticket to the event includes a signed copy of Mixtape Potluck—which, again, is the next-best thing to getting an invite to one of Quest’s dinner parties. (We’re still holding out hope for an invitation, though.)
