Yes, it’s a "golf resort," but don’t panic. You don’t have to own a visor or say "birdie" unironically to belong here. You just have to appreciate smart design, a spa that fixes bad decisions and enough pools so everyone in your family can pick a favorite. (Depending on the size of your family, of course. I went with my husband and twin 11-year-old sons.) Turnberry somehow feels luxurious without being uptight, family-friendly without turning into a toddler rave and massive without feeling like you’re checking into a small nation.
It’s the rare spot where you can sip a coconut mojito at 11am, fly down a waterslide by noon and erase your regrets with a deep-tissue massage by 3pm. Hypothetically.

If you’ve ever dreamed of staying somewhere that looks like it was designed for a lifestyle shoot—but where you can actually mess up the pillows—Turnberry’s rooms get pretty close. Giant balconies, soaking tubs that could double as plunge pools and enough space to dance like no one’s watching without knocking over a lamp.
The vibe is "elevated coastal": clean neutrals, dark woods and just enough Miami polish to keep things fun without veering into tacky. We found thoughtful touches like bedside USB ports, blackout curtains that actually worked and a bed so comfortable I could have stayed there all day, except for the sun, the pools and two 11-year-old twin boys (have I mentioned them?).

Plenty of resorts phone it in when it comes to on-site dining—Turnberry is definitely not one of them. Corsair was our go-to for a long brunch or a casual dinner. We sat both indoors and outdoors, and both areas were perfectly appointed. The decor was Florida-chic: light wood and big windows, with the kind of easy elegance that helped make our meals feel like a plan, not a fallback like most other resorts. The food was an amazing combination of comfort and finesse—think short rib hash, crispy Brussels and a Caesar salad that was exciting (yes, exciting).
Then there’s Bourbon Steak, which is what happens when a steakhouse gets a luxury makeover but still keeps its edge. The lighting is low, the leather is plush and the vibe is quiet money. Expect butter-poached everything, an entire menu section devoted to potatoes, and a wine list that assumes you either know what you're doing or know someone who does. It’s indulgent in the best way—without crossing into overwrought.
You’ll also find a quick-service coffee and juice bar near the lobby, plus Surf House, a poolside spot for tacos, frozen drinks and anything else that tastes better in a swimsuit.

This is where Turnberry flexes.
First: the pools. Not just "a pool." A full water park called Tidal Cove, complete with lazy river, surf simulator and slides that are either thrilling or crazy fun, depending on how adventurous you are (or how said 11-year-old twins can shame you into being adventurous). Admission is included with your stay and honestly, you could spend days here without repeating yourself.
The spa? Massive. Beautifully designed. Blessedly free of fake eucalyptus smells. Treatments are legit and the hydrotherapy circuit was enough to make me briefly forget the real world back home.
Golfers will be thrilled with two championship courses. I personally enjoyed watching them from a distance while doing absolutely none of that.
There’s also a serious fitness center for people who like the idea of balance while on vacation. (Good for them.)
What’s the area like around the JW Marriott Turnberry Miami?
Aventura is not South Beach—and thank God for that.
Right next door is the Aventura Mall, perfect for when we needed a casual stroll that accidentally cost us $400. It’s packed with everything from high-end shops to a surprisingly strong food hall. We went almost every night, and we loved it.
If you want to escape further, Miami Beach, Wynwood, downtown and Hollywood Beach are all within 20–40 minutes, traffic gods permitting. But honestly? You’ll probably get distracted by the lazy river and forget you ever planned to leave.
What’s the service like at the JW Marriott Turnberry Miami?
Service at Turnberry is what every resort should aim for—genuinely friendly without forcing it.
Staff actually seemed happy we were there, which sounds basic until you’ve stayed somewhere that forgot humans exist. Front desk, poolside, restaurant staff—everyone nailed the balance between attentive and letting us live our lives.
Poolside service is fast, food and drinks arrive still hot or cold, respectively, and nobody tried to sell us a membership to anything. Five stars just for that.
