3/12 Update: Due to coronavirus concerns, the 2020 James Beard Awards have been postponed to the summer. In a statement this morning, the James Beard Foundation outlined plans to move the annual food-awards ceremony—as well as its media-awards ceremony and that for leadership in the service industry—to new, yet-to-be-determined dates, but the nominee announcements will still proceed as planned, naming the finalists on March 25.

The list of 2020 James Beard Awards Restaurant and Chef Semifinalists is out and Miami is showing up strong.

With more nods than in previous years, our chefs lead the pack in the Best Chef in the South category. Congratulations are in order for first-time nominees Michael Beltran of Ariete in Coconut Grove (and Leña at Time Out Market Miami!) and Luciana Giangrandi and Alex Meyer, the talented duo behind wildly the successful Little Haiti restaurant Boia De. Past nominees getting some love again this year are Niven Patel of Ghee Indian Kitchen and honorary Miamian Lindsay Autry of Palm Beach’s The Regional Kitchen & Public House.

To no surprise to anyone who’s ever tried one of Bachour’s buttery croissants, Antonio Bachour is nominated for his namesake restaurant (which you can also visit at Time Out Market Miami) for Outstanding Pastry Chef. Itamae’s talented Valerie Chang is nominated as one of this year’s Rising Star Chefs.

Congrats to all of this year’s semifinalists!
