With its stunning beaches, lively nightlife and vibrant culture, Miami is routinely one of the most coveted vacation spots in the U.S.—but these days, it looks like the Florida destination is surprisingly falling out of favor with global travelers, per new data from Google.

A new global study from travel insurance specialists InsureandGo reveals some surprising shifts in travel behavior for 2025—after analyzing year-on-year global search trends for flights, hotels and itineraries on Google, the report found that vacationers are turning away from usual hotspots like Miami, FL and Las Vegas, NV "in part of a wider pattern where classic city break destinations are seeing slower search growth as travelers explore new and less crowded spots."
In fact, Miami saw a 15-percent decrease year-on-year in travel searches, second only to Havana, Cuba, which experienced a nearly 28-percent drop in travel interest year-on-year, making it the most "dropped" city destination globally in 2025. Other popular destinations that saw significant declines in the past year are Kingston, Jamaica (down 11-percent), Berlin, Germany (down 4-percent) and even London, England, which saw a two-percent markdown.

While some destinations like Dubai and Delhi saw decreases in global travel interest, others soared: rising locales include Bali, Indonesia (up 16-percent year-on-year), Nassau, Bahamas (up 31-percent) and Chicago, Illinois, which saw a whopping 41-percent increase in Google searches. (Effect of The Bear's popularity, maybe?) Less-known gems like Lucerne in Switzerland and Tbilisi in Georgia also saw big boosts in the past twelve months, with a 51-percent and 37-percent search increase, respectively.
“While big-name cities will always have their place, the data shows travelers are becoming more experimental,” says Letitia Smith, Head of Communications at InsureandGo. “People are craving new experiences, deeper connections to places, and often, a break from the crowds or even the hotter weather in classic sun-drenched destinations where temperatures are rising."
“Whether it’s retreating into nature, exploring lesser-known cultures, or simply finding more room to breathe, it’s clear that travel in 2025 is about a new wave of adventurous travel," Smith continued. "Wherever you’re heading, don’t forget the practical side of planning. Unexpected delays or cancellations can hit even the most scenic destinations, so make sure you’ve got comprehensive travel insurance in place. That way, you can focus on the adventure, not the worries.”
