The prestigious Prix Versailles has unveiled its 2026 list of the World’s Most Beautiful Restaurants, celebrating 16 extraordinary dining destinations where architecture, design and gastronomy come together in spectacular fashion.

Spanning cities from Hong Kong and Helsinki to Los Angeles and Cape Town, this year’s selection showcases restaurants that blur the line between culinary excellence and architectural artistry.

But despite Canada's reputation as one of the world's most exciting dining destinations, not one Canadian restaurant earned a place on the 2026 list.

Check out: It’s official: One of the world’s best burgers is in Montreal

From Montreal's iconic Art Deco landmark Le 9e restaurant atop the Montreal Eaton Centre to Restaurant Pearl Morissette in Lincoln, Ontario (where the landscape literally shapes the experience), Canada is a glaring omission—particularly given the international acclaim garnered by restaurants in cities from coast to coast.

And we haven't even talked about the brand new Time Out Market Vancouver.

At a time when the country's restaurants are earning increasing recognition on global culinary rankings, it raises the question of why some of Canada's most striking restaurant interiors and design-forward dining rooms were overlooked.

How is the Prix Versailles selected and evaluated?

The Prix Versailles awards celebrate architecture and design projects that combine cultural significance, innovation and sustainability on a global scale. Whether housed within historic landmarks, luxury emporiums or striking contemporary spaces, each venue was chosen for its ability to create a memorable sense of place while elevating the dining experience. According to Jérôme Gouadain, Secretary General of the Prix Versailles, the selection reflects the remarkable diversity of global food culture and the role design plays in shaping it.

Three of the restaurants selected for the 2026 list will go on to receive one of the competition’s highest distinctions later this year: the Prix Versailles World Title, recognizing excellence in either overall design, interior architecture or exterior architecture.
