💎 Best for: aesthetic-minded travelers
Stepping into the lobby of Drift Nashville, I was struck by a wave of Palm Springs déjà vu. The mid-century modern design, softened by plants and plush, jewel-toned upholstery, evoked a desert aesthetic so perfectly that I half expected a cactus out my window. Instead, I was a block off I-24, tucked amid the cranes of the city’s East Bank. Despite the construction and interstate proximity, this hotel—a reimagined 1965 roadside motel—turned out to be one of the quietest, most peaceful stays I’ve ever had in my hometown.
Ideal for those seeking a hands-off experience, Drift Nashville combines the ease of an Airbnb with the polish of a boutique stay through fully contactless check-in. The 114 rooms range from minimalist studios to expansive, apartment-like suites featuring raw industrial edges like exposed concrete and rough-hewn wood. My downtown-facing suite felt completely insulated from the traffic outside and was packed with thoughtful details, from built-in USB-C ports to well-stocked kitchenettes equipped with cocktail kits and ice machines.
The social heart of the hotel is the lobby level, which offers an all-day café, Dawn, and the Sun Room, a terrazzo-topped bar perfect for a cocktail and a laptop. While the surrounding area is currently transitional—positioned right next to the rising new NFL stadium complex—this is still a prime destination for exploring.
Time Out tip: Cut through the stadium complex to the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, which links to downtown Nashville.
