With the list of countries offering digital nomad visas continuing to grow (Peru and South Korea being the newest additions), remote workers might be wondering where exactly they should up sticks and move to.

There’s been plenty of analysis over the last few months to help them out: we’ve had rankings on the fastest-growing destinations, the cheapest European capitals and even the best countries in the world for remote workers

And now office tech supplier Brother UK is sharing their research on the matter, too. They’ve analysed Wi-Fi speed, the cost of an apartment, electricity, how safe a country is, and the general cost of living to see which European city is the best for remote workers – and the answer might surprise you.

That’s because it was Luxembourg that came in first place. The eponymous capital city is a notoriously prosperous place, and it boasts multiple Michelin-star restaurants and the stunning Grand Ducal Palace.

But the city also has a cracking quality of life score (192.9), health care index score (75) and happiness index score (7.23), which all suggest it’s a pretty good place to live, too.

In second place, it’s the Czech city of Olomouc, which is about two hours away from Prague. It ranked so highly largely thanks to its affordability. A one-bedroom apartment would cost around £350 (€407, $446) per month, and monthly Wi-Fi would be just £15.50 (€18, $20) – that is pretty budget-friendly.

Rotterdam in the Netherlands comes third, and Aalborg in Denmark comes fourth. Both these countries scored well overall, as each of the latter had two cities in the top 10, and the former had three.

The ten best European cities for remote working, according to Brother UK.

  1. Luxembourg, Luxembourg
  2. Olomouc, Czechia (aka Czech Republic)
  3. Rotterdam, Netherlands
  4. Aalborg, Netherlands
  5. Reykjavik, Iceland
  6. Utrecht, Netherlands
  7. Arhus, Denmark
  8. Eindhoven, Netherlands
  9. Plzen, Czechia
  10. Oradea, Romania
