From Italy and Croatia to Germany and the Czech Republic, Europe’s grand night train revival doesn’t look like it’s slowing down anytime soon. And get this: now there’s yet another one set to launch over the coming months. From the end of March, a new sleeper route will link two of Europe’s coolest cities: Stockholm and Berlin.
The Swedish and German capitals will be linked by a new connection operated by EuroNight, which is run by Sweden’s national rail service SJ. Stopping at other significant Swedish cities like Linkoping, Lund and Malmö, as well as the German port city of Hamburg, the new line will take approximately 15 and a half hours to do the entire route.
Technically SJ’s route isn’t entirely brand new but an extension of the Stockholm-Hamburg sleeper route which launched last summer. It’ll have the same ticket options, with a range of couchette cabins, deluxe rooms and standard sleeper seats. Prices start from about 792 Swedish krona (£62, $76).
The outward train leaves Stockholm at 5:34pm, arrives in Hamburg at around 6am the next day and then gets into Berlin at 9am. The return service, meanwhile, leaves Berlin at 6:37pm, stops in Hamburg at around 10pm, then arrives in Stockholm at 9:55am the next day.
