Betty Woodman, Roman Fresco/Pleasures and Places

The noted ceramicist originally created this brightly colored meditation on classical antiquity for the American Academy in Rome. Indeed, the city and its storied heritage served as the inspiration for this work, which combines canvas painted in Woodman's update of traditional Roman fresco style with vase-shaped objects in glazed clay.
