A German artist who splits his time between Düsseldorf and New York, Meisenberg pursues a multivalent practice that incorporates video, VR, installation, sculpture and painting, in order, according to the artist, to demonstrate that “oil paint and [digital] code…[are] functionally and theoretically the same.” Perhaps, though it should be noted that his paintings feature the same tossed-off mix of cartoonish figuration and abstraction common to millennial artists (so common, in fact, it might as well be dubbed “Millennialism”). In this show, the artist turns his attentions away from larger cultural and formal issues to contemplate “dreams, states of psychosis and moments of lucidity.”
