You know how when you xerox a document, and then xerox the xerox and so on, the end product is a degraded abstraction of the original? Israel Lund does something similar with his paintings, though he employs a far more complicated process, involving silk-screen printing, digital scanning and iPhone apps. You can quibble with whether the results represent "pure data," as the artist describes it, but the works, which resemble nothing so much as frottages, are certainly attractive.
