Pop Art, Minimalism—and more than a touch of Baroque—have long defined the work of this journeyman sculptor, who emerged in the 1970s just as Conceptualism was losing its grip on New York artists. Newman’s practice features distended organic forms, often with alien, extraterrestrial presence. Those same characteristics apply to his drawings, featured here in a selection spanning more than 20 years.
