This Chinese artist uses found photos as a source material for these 11 new large-scale paintings—measuring up to 17 feet long. The images—some personal, some historical, some related to current events—are applied in a thick impasto and divided into gridlike squares of subtle colors, with the aim of walking the tightrope between loaded content and formal allure.
