Organized crime goes by many names. Italy has the Cosa Nostra, China has the Triads, and Japan has the yakuza. Author Jake Adelstein (Tokyo Vice) discusses the real yakuza and its appearance in popular culture as the Japan Society kicks off its film series Hardest Men in Town: Yakuza Chronicles of Sin, Sex & Violence. A screening of director Rokuro Mochizuki's 1996 masterpiece, Onibi—The Fire Within, will follow.
