[title]
Broadway watchers over the past few years have known what a treasure Laura Benanti is: beauty, awesome singing chops and her not-so-secret weapon, killer comedy timing. Benanti’s shtick (honed in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and cabaret appearances) is the hyper-confident/hyper-insecure striver, the Kimmy Schmidt-manic-pixie-dream-nerd, only not a male-projected fantasy.
Benanti’s current stage gig is in the New York Spring Spectacular, and as part of Radio City Music Hall’s marketing push, she has appeared in Workin It, a web series built around her ineffectual attempts at mastering various trades—Rockette, barista and in the third—which we are premiering exclusively below—tour guide at Radio City.
Normally, we would say that such a megatalent should be snapped up by film or TV, but it’s happening already: Benanti has a recurring role on ABC’s Nashville and another on CBS’s upcoming Supergirl. Both parts are not essentially comic, so we hereby challenge Tina Fey, Amy Schumer, Elizabeth Meriwether or Jenji Kohan to build a series around one of the funniest of Broadway’s funny girls.
