Mapping Student Debt is a new interactive map from the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, that lets you search zip codes across the country and look up a few simple statistics in that area. The map ranks three factors: delinquency, average loan balance and median income, on a scale from extremely low to extremely high.

It quickly becomes apparent that Manhattan has both a higher amount of student debt as well as a lower rate of default than the other boroughs. In fact, most affluent zip codes have a higher average student loan balance, but residents also have larger incomes which makes it easier to pay off.

For instance, the average loan balance for the 10021 area code on the Upper East Side is noted as "astrononmical" but the median income is a very manageable 107,000.
