Each week, we take two New Yorkers who swear they're totally undateable, and put our matchmaking skills to the test. Afterward, we find out what went well on their date, and what went horribly, horribly wrong.

Why they're single:
Abbey: Took a break from dating and is unsure how to jump back into it.
Eddie:  Doesn’t have a lot of time to date, so it’s not a priority.

Ideal date:
Abbey: Having a drink and chatting
Eddie:  Hanging out and watching Netflix on a couch

THE DATE

First impression
Abbey: “I thought he was really nice and super personable, and he had a great smile. At first we had to warm up to each other, but it wasn’t awkward.”
Eddie: “She immediately said, ‘I don’t do this often,’ kind of awkwardly, and I was like, Oh, good, we’re both on the same page here. I thought, This girl will be super funny.”

Chemistry
Abbey: “We talked about all the things you’re not supposed to talk about on a first date, like politics, which was actually lovely. He was engaging, and we got along really well.”
Eddie: “We have a lot in common: I do improv, and she’s a big improv nerd. We have similar tastes in music, and we both love the Yankees. She was actually amazing.”

Awkward Moment
Abbey: “When we first got there, we were cluelessly sitting at opposite ends of the bar waiting for each other to show up. The bartender was finally like, ‘Oh, that’s him.’ ”
Eddie: “I definitely dropped my chopsticks too many times. I figured an awkward moment would happen, and we’d sit there on our phones, but we were there for four hours.”

Afterward
Abbey: “I got a car, and he walked me out—it was gentlemanly. His phone had died, so he gave me his number. We were like, ‘Yeah, we’re totally going to hang out again.’”
Eddie: “I gave her my number around 9pm, like halfway through. She had to be up early, so we had one last sake drink for the road. I gave her a kiss on the cheek. It was very sweet.”

Verdict
Abbey: ♥♥♥♥♥ “It was one of the better dates I’ve been on by a long shot. It was just two people who have a lot of the same interests. I was so pleasantly surprised.”
Eddie:: ♥♥♥♥♥ “We never ran out of anything to talk about. We had natural conversation and were comfortable with each other, and I don’t feel that way very often on dates.”

Our daters went to Soothsayer 171 Ave A (212-475-3171)
