Each week, we take two New Yorkers who swear they're totally undateable, and put our matchmaking skills to the test. Afterward, we find out what went well on their date, and what went horribly, horribly wrong.
Why they're single:
DJ: He’s picky, and his dog is his best friend. He won’t bail on his dog to go on a date.
Kellita: She’s a free spirit and hasn’t met anyone as free and wild as she is.
Ideal date:
DJ: Anywhere you can have a good conversation—maybe going to the dog park
Kellita: Doing something spontaneous that the both of them are doing for the first time ever
THE DATE
First impression
DJ: “I got there early and went to the bathroom. While I was in there, somebody put down a champagne holder full of ice. I turned the corner, kicked it, and ice went everywhere.”
Kellita: “When I got there, he was in the bathroom. I heard a loud crash and looked over: One of those wine cooler things had fallen, and there was DJ. I was like, He’s perfect.”
Chemistry
DJ: “I could tell that she was younger, and she was kind of looking off in the distance for a good portion of it. It was good conversation, but we were just checking off boxes.”
Kellita: “He was very charming and seemed like a guy that was well put together. He said he was going to London to see the Harry Potter play, and I thought that was really cool.”
Awkward Moment
DJ: “On our way to the second spot, she said, ‘You have a nice nose.’ I said, ‘That’s the first time I’ve heard that; I broke my nose eight times.’ And then she stroked the side of it.”
Kellita: “We met up with some of my friends, and I went off to go dance with this older gay couple. I realized that DJ and all my friends were looking at me. It was so embarrassing.”
Afterward
DJ: “She went for a kiss; I’m 99.9 percent positive. I turned quickly, and she caught my cheek. She took my phone to put her contact in and took a picture of herself.”
Kellita: “We just kept getting hammered. My friends thought he was cute and hovered around him. He went to go hang out with his friends, and I thought it was kind of a short date.”
Verdict
DJ: ♥♥ “Long story short, I’m still single. She was a little quirky and weird, but aren’t we all? It was fun, and she’s a nice person, and I hope she finds somebody nice.”
Kellita: ♥♥♥♥♥ “I haven’t heard from him. I’m really upset because he has a dog, and I felt the connection. But it’s cool; I might have been a little too crazy. “
