Meet the Undateables: Gila and Robinette

Each week, we take two New Yorkers who swear they're totally undateable, and put our matchmaking skills to the test. Afterward, we find out what went well on their date, and what went horribly, horribly wrong.

Why they're single:
Gila: Doesn’t often meet people she connects with and might be picky
Robinette: Works in nightlife, so scheduling is tough

Ideal date:
Gila: Dinner at a super-hip Meatpacking District restaurant, then drinks at a dive bar
Robinette: A walk through the park with ice cream

THE DATE

First impression
Gila: “We scanned each other up and down. Both of us were elated that the other person was attractive. We were like, ‘Oh, my God, I thought you were going to be ugly!’”
Robinette: “I got there first, and she looked at me, and we were both terrified, but she asked, ‘Are you Robinette?’ and we were comfortable immediately. She looks like Alicia Keys.”

Chemistry
Gila: “I knew she wasn’t my type immediately, but she had a beautiful face. We’re both from the South, and we’re both black, so we chatted away before we even ordered food.”
Robinette: “I’m from the Midwest, but I feel Southern, and she’s very Southern, so that made me feel comfortable. It was like I was hanging out at home. She’s absolutely hilarious.”

Awkward Moment
Gila: “When I told her I was bisexual and didn’t know if I was being set up with a guy or a girl, I could tell she was like, What the hell? But she rolled with it and was very polite.”
Robinette: “She was telling me that she was not expecting a woman, and when she found out that I was one, she was a little shocked. I was like, ‘Oh, sorry.’ ”

Afterward
Gila: “We were walking toward the train and talking about seeing each other. She’s a DJ, and she invited me to clubs she’ll be at. She texted me saying she had a great time.”
Robinette: “She had just gotten in from L.A., so we called it a night. She kissed me on my cheek. We exchanged numbers, and I texted her that night.”

Verdict
Gila: ♥♥♥♥ “I got along with her well; she reminded me of a friend back home. I could totally see me hanging out with her, but I don’t think I felt anything deeper than that.”
Robinette: ♥♥♥♥ “I laughed the whole time. She’s so pretty and super awesome. It was a homegirl vibe. I’d hang out again; I hope she comes to this awards show I’m deejaying.”

Our daters went to Cafe Medi, 107 Rivington St, 212-796-8040)
