You've tried the bar scene, you've tried Tinder... but have you tried pheromones? Let your nose help you find love with Smell Dating, a New York-based dating service that lets you sniff stranger's dirty T-shirts to see if you're into what they're putting down, so to speak. Can you smell what your new boyfriend is cookin'?
"Art project" Smell Dating works like this: They send you a shirt, you wear it for three days and nights without deodorant, you send the shirt back and they cut it into pieces and send it to strangers who rate your smell! You'll get your own stranger's shirt swatches to sniff and then let Smell Dating know who made your nose tingle, in a good way. If you and a stranger out there liked each other's musks, you'll receive their contact information—and the rest is up to your other four senses (or something like that).
The project, created by artist Tega Brain and NYU researcher Sam Lavigne, tried the experiment out on 100 people, according to Reuters. Each client paid $25 for the opportunity to sniff stranger's shirts, regardless of knowledge of age, gender or orientation. "Most normal dating services, you rely on profile pictures, assumptions that come from visual information," Brain told Reuters. "You either really like the smell of someone or you don't. It's much more innate."
The current round has ended, but you can sign up to be notified about the next round on their website. Or, go to a pickup spot blindfolded and go crazy!
