The weather may not be so frightful, but it’s sloppy enough to stay inside and watch Lily Baldwin’s “Sleepover LA,” an excellent short from the dancer-turned-filmmaker in which two women spend a night at a hotel.
SLEEPOVER LA from Lily Baldwin on Vimeo.
In the hypnotic film, Baldwin stars alongside Nicole Disson—an established member of the Los Angeles performance scene who is also the film’s producer—as Taylor, a tourist clutching a vintage copy of Off the Beaten Path. Set at the Standard, Downtown L.A., the film uses dance as a diaphanous storytelling tool, in which the dreamy narrative is at the service of the choreography; movement wafts through it. (It was recently selected as a Vimeo “Short of the Week.”) This weekend, Baldwin is also part of the Dance on Camera festival where another short, “A Juice Box Afternoon,” will be shown on Saturday evening at Walter Reade Theater.
