Books Through Bars

Megan Sweeney conducted the first study of the female prison population's reading habits through interviews with 94 inmates located in Ohio, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Tonight, she discusses her new book, Reading Is My Window: Books and the Art of Reading in Women's Prisons, and her observations of the ways inmates used reading material to grapple with their pasts, come to terms with the present and angle toward a different future.
