Gilmore’s latest novel, Something Red, is a multigenerational story of a Russian family striving to achieve the American dream during a fraught stretch of U.S. history, from the rise of communism and the execution of the Rosenbergs to the Cold War, Vietnam and Jimmy Carter’s presidency.
