Contemporary-classical experts they may be, but the members of the Argento Chamber Ensemble can play some familiar pieces, too. Here, they present a new chamber-orchestra arrangement of Mahler's Ninth, in a concert that kicks off a season-long investigation of "Gustav Mahler in New York." And because the Argentos cannot live by the standard repertoire alone, their program makes room for two responses-to-Gustav, in the form of pieces by New York composers Matthew Ricketts and Taylor Brook. (The hypermodernist heroes in the JACK Quartet will take the stage for the latter composition.)
