DJ mix: Sunshine Jones

Here’s how you know which DJs are really good (and it has nothing to do with technical skills, style of music or whether they use vinyl or digital methodologies): Do you really want to listen to them for five hours straight? Without booze or drugs? If so, they’re good—and by that measure, San Fran’s Sunshine Jones is very, very good. The erstwhile Dubtribe Sound System maestro has graced us with this long-ass set, culled from his monthly Sunday Soul series, that wends its way through deep house, boogie and electrofunk, beatbeat, shimmering synthpop, acid, some floaty ambient segments and a few bits…well, we’re not quite sure what to call those bits. Jones is spinning with François K at Deep Space on Monday, April 30, and while he probably won’t have quite as much time to fill as he did with this set, we’d still expect it to be quite a trip.
