Graceland

Ellen Fairey demonstrates a sharp ear for dialogue and a palpable empathy for lost soul in her indie-filmish New York debut, which stars Marink Hinkle as a woman who returns to Chicago to bury her father. Matt McGrath, Brian Kerwin and David Gelles Hurwitz come through in supporting roles. But heavy-handed symbolism, a weak pivotal performance and an unaffecting denouement hamper whatever grace this show has.—Raven Snook
