In the Battlefields

Beirut in the early ’80s couldn’t have been an easy place to grow up in, but this film’s 12-year-old protagonist has to negotiate a minefield of domestic strife as well: a dad with a gambling problem, a tyrannical aunt and a promiscuous maid who is the girl’s only role model. The bombs are actually the least of her problems.
