Le Petit Lieutenant

The title is a reference to the central character, a young rookie in a Paris precinct, working for an ex-alcoholic “supercop” (Baye, whose performance netted her a César). About halfway in, what started out as a standard policier suddenly takes an interesting detour and veers into much darker territory than you’d expect.
