Hitchcock fanatics are welcome to argue about whether this remake is superior or inferior to the 1934 thriller (also by Hitch) on which it’s based. The truth is, neither one is especially good, though at least the original spares us the horror of Doris Day singing “Que Sera, Sera” ad infinitum. Doris’s fans will disagree, of course—in a prim, tuneful way.
