The Member of the Wedding

Carson McCullers’s play about a tomboy (Julie Harris) suffering through growing pains against the backdrop of her brother’s wedding gets the “serious” Hollywood treatment, with mixed results. Still, kudos to Harris, who gives her confused hero a sense of humanity while keeping the Method tics to a bare minimum. Author Donald Bogle will introduce the screening and sign copies of his new book on Wedding costar Ethel Waters afterward.
