There’s nothing like a double shot of early Danish silents to get the blood pumping on a Friday night: Stellan Rye’s The Student of Prague was a big influence on German Expressionism (you’re welcome, Dr. Caligari), while Benjamin Christensen’s The Mysterious X is a spy thriller with a shadowy, creepy style he’d later perfect in his best-known work, Haxan (1922).
