This ensemble comedy could have come off as a Gallic Steel Magnolias, but miraculously, Tonie Marshall turns this story about a Parisian salon into a study of melancholy. That’s Baye playing the proprietor and a pre-Amélie Audrey Tautou working her gamine charm on the customers.
