Formerly known as International Pickle Day, this ten-year-old festival celebrates NYC's historic love affair with the pickle. Munch on bialys from Hot Bread Kitchen during a presentation by author Mimi Sheraton (The Bialy Eaters), then sample brined and fermented snacks from local producers like McClure’s, Rick’s Picks and Mother-in-Law’s kimchi—taste most items for free, then purchase jars of your favorites. DIY types can also show off their skills in the home-pickling competition, which offers categories like best spicy, best sweet and best alternative pickle. Submissions must be entered by November 10; check the newamsterdammarket.com for drop-off locations.
