Arranger-bandleader Arturo “Chico” O’Farrill Sr. began introducing Afro-Cuban rhythms into jazz in the ’40s. The band that bears Chico’s name (and is directed by his pianist son, Arturo O'Farrill) continues to showcase the most seamless blend of clave rhythm and bebop harmony anywhere.
