Fountains of Wayne + Nicole Atkins

Fountains of Wayne are one of the few contemporary rock bands that write direct lyrics that tell stories, rather than reach for vague imagery. This is admirable—and frontmen Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood pen snappy pop fit for ’70s radio, or at least a Ben Folds album. Tonight they celebrate the release of a new disc, Sky Full of Holes. Swoony support comes from Nicole Atkins, singing dark, reverb-drenched torch songs.
