Goth Cruise with James Chance and the Contortions + Midnight Magic + Household

Barnard radio station WBAR hosts a self-described "winter formal," headlined by none other than No Wave and mutant-disco survivor James Chance, singing and blowing sax over the raucous band with which he roiled through the NYC underbelly in the late ’70s and early ’80s. Fellow disco types Midnight Magic get things started. The organizers tell us that goth/formal dress is encouraged, and, in keeping with the apparent nautical theme, "a goth first mate and captain will be named." Ah, college!
