Lucian Ban and Tony Malaby

Romanian pianist-composer Lucian Ban favors searching postbop that cranes toward the avant-garde without losing the buoyance of swing. Here he duets with similarly versatile saxophone ace Tony Malaby, resuming a collaboration begun on Enesco Re-Imagined, a 2011 Ban effort inspired by underappreciated composer George Enescu.
