Mayhem

This black metal institution is known for tossing around severed sheep heads at shows, but the band's alignment with the macabre extends far beyond performative antics. Its disturbingly haunted past involves both the suicide of singer Per "Dead" Ohlion in 1991 as well as the murder of guitarist Euronymous at the hands of Burzum bassist Varg Vikernes two years later. Mayhem is nothing less than resilient though, and has continued to release albums for the past three decades. Here the band plays its punishing debut De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas in its entirety.
