Ebullient drummer Joey Baron is best known for his work in bands led by Bill Frisell and John Zorn, but his range extends still further, from lissome, straight-ahead swing to tactile free-improvisation. Along with contemporary-classical percussionist Robyn Schulkowsky, his cocurator at the Stone throughout the month of September, Baron makes a splash with a quirky foursome completed by woodwind polymath Scott Robinson and earthy bassist William Parker.
