If you’ve been lucky enough to catch a Dead Science show, you may have felt your inner talent scout taking over—dollar-sign pupils and all. The Seattle avant-pop trio’s lanky, pompadoured frontman, Sam Mickens, emanates a rare magnetism; his skewed soul stylings bring to mind a David Lynch–directed version of Back to the Future’s Enchantment Under the Sea sequence. You just knew he needed a star vehicle. Given Mickens’s strange charisma, it’s no great shock to learn that he’s relocated to Brooklyn and launched his own enterprise, the Ecstatic Showband & Revue. The project’s brilliant debut single, “One Final Round,” issued earlier this year on Shatter Your Leaves, found Mickens bidding a brassy farewell to love (and life?) via his fluttery, stylized croon. Tonight’s show celebrates the singer’s new, more modestly scaled solo LP, Slay & Slake. Helping set the stage are emotive singer-songwriter and eccentric Nat Baldwin (a member of Dirty Projectors) and assaultive punk-jazz quartet Little Women.
