Let's make this clear: Virginia soul veteran Swamp Dogg has been rockin' that whole "Dogg" thing since the '70s (i.e., long before Uncle Snoop); indeed, the cover of his first album under that moniker features Swamp riding a giant white rat and has been rightly voted one of the worst sleeves of all time. He'll be demonstrating his fine pipes tonight, backed by Brooklyn soul revivalists the Revelations, playing a spring residency here; their heartfelt take on classic R&B is refreshingly free of contemporary urban posturing and hip-hop histrionics (and vocally, singer Tre Williams is a dead ringer for Cee-Lo).
