Defecting from Wall to Wall’s traditional 12-hour-marathon focus on one musical figure (which in the past has included everyone from Beethoven to Duke Ellington to Stephen Sondheim), Symphony Space’s incoming artistic director, Laura Kaminsky, focuses on a handful of prominent figures from the Soviet Era such as Prokofiev, Ligeti, Bartók, Schnittke and Pärt, performed by an international lineup of musicians including Continuum, the Poulenc Trio and the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic. The highlight, however, will be the evening’s spotlight on Shostakovich and the U.S. premiere of his Front Ways Songs, performed by operatic hotshots (and enfianced couple) Sasha Cooke and Kelly Markgraf.
