Each week, we take two New Yorkers who swear they’re totally undateable, and put our matchmaking skills to the test. Afterward, we find out what went well on their date, and what went horribly, horribly wrong.

Why they’re single:
Mariann: She’s very selective and only looking for someone who’s a genuine, good-hearted, down-to-earth person.
Aram: He’s super busy with work, and it’s hard to go on a date while you’re answering emails the entire time.

Ideal date:
Mariann: Starting off at a trendy pub then going to a show.
Aram: Just grabbing a drink and having a dialogue

THE DATE

First impression
Mariann: “ I got there a little early. When he walked up, we shook hands and then hit it off immediately. I don’t really have a physical type, but I definitely found him attractive.”
Aram: “ I’ve never done a blind date before, so I was skeptical but trying to keep an open mind. When we first met, I thought she was really pretty, and we vibed right away.”

Chemistry
Mariann: “It felt really right. We were vibing really well, and I think we were both attracted to each other. Culturally, I think we both have similar upbringings and have a lot in common.”
Aram: “We were able to connect on multiple different levels, and we have similar taste in food and music. She was really easy to talk to, and I liked that she was very independent.”

Awkward Moment
Mariann: “I had to let him know that I could only stay for an hour because I had to get home and walk a dog that I’m dog-sitting. I would have stayed longer if I could.”
Aram: “ When I first met her, the introduction was a handshake. You never know what to do in those situations, but luckily we went right into chatting.”

Afterward
Mariann: “ It ended really well—we’re planning to have another fun night out soon. We hugged goodbye on the street. I think we were both surprised that it went so great.”
Aram: “We exchanged numbers and agreed that we’d hang out again soon and go listen to some music at a concert. It was honestly beyond my wildest expectations.”

Verdict
Mariann: ♥♥♥♥ “It went very well. Our personalities matched, and there was physical and intellectual attraction. I can definitely see something materializing in the future.”
Aram: ♥♥♥♥ “ I would give it a five, but I don’t want to jump to any conclusions. It was a really good pairing, and I want to see her again. She was the type I’d like to date.”

Our daters went to Crimson & Rye (212-687-6692, 198 E 54th St)
