Wine takes precedence in this subterranean lounge, where waiter-sommeliers pair vino (cannonau, sweet rosé) with dishes like roasted-chicken ravioli and shrimp risotto.

This restaurant is excellent. Highly recommend the pomodoro spaghetti dish, it's baked inside of a tomato. Their wines are very good. You receive a high-end dining experience without having to spend a fortune. Most of the staff speak Italian, so if you're a native, you'll feel right at home!

If I didn't read about this place (3 times in 2 weeks no less), I probably would've walked by it for two reasons:

1) it's not very noticeable
2) if I did notice it, I probably wouldn't have stopped in because it's in the basement of a town house on 14th.

However, you should absolutely check this place out. In an area of expensive, pretentious and crowded restaurants with no reservations, Mulino is a nice hidden (literally) gem. It's spacious, dimly lit and the service was great.

You can choose the size of any dish you order (small, medium, large) and you should definitely order the savory donut (woah) and the spaghetti baked in the tomato. And let's not forget the extensive wine list. I was recommended the Lacrima di Moro (never heard of it before), and now I have a new favorite red.

All in all, a solid place I would visit again.
