Why they’re single:
Meghan: She got a bit burned out by dating and took a hiatus. She can also be really picky when it comes to guys.
Kyle: He’s not assertive enough, and he misinterprets signs from women.

Ideal date:
Meghan: A drink or two at a bar with a backyard
Kyle: Singing karaoke and dancing, sometimes at the same time

THE DATE

First impression
Meghan: I usually go for guys taller than I am, but he seemed nice and friendly. He’s a salesperson, and I could tell: He was really articulate and presented his ideas clearly.”
Kyle
I thought we had good chemistry. We have similar taste in movies—we talked about our favorite Wes Anderson films. Our sense of humor is similar, and we’re both pretty open.

Chemistry
Meghan: We’re both kind of basic leftist twentysomethings, so we had a lot of things to talk about, like John Oliver and Fleetwood Mac. I didn’t really feel a spark, though.
Kyle:
“I find I feel romantic attachment very selectively to people, but we were there for two and a half hours—she was so interesting. I probably asked too many questions.”

Awkward Moment
Meghan: When I first meet someone, I’m mainly taking in their face and sometimes forget their name. I forgot his name about midway through the date.
Kyle:
I got up to go to the restroom and forgot I had my napkin on my lap. As I walked away, it fell off my lap and onto the floor, and I kind of tripped on it.”

Afterward
Meghan: He walked me to the subway and asked for my number. I mentioned this film screening that I run at Videology, and he came last night—that was really sweet and nice.
Kyle:
She had to get back to her apartment by a certain time, so we walked back to the subway together. I got her number, we hugged, and then we parted ways.

Verdict
Meghan: ♥♥♥ I had a nice time with him, and we had a good conversation, but I only see us being friends. I don’t think I would go on another date with him.
Kyle: ♥♥♥♥ I had a really good time. She’s very intelligent and funny, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s really attractive. I’d like to see her again. I’m cautiously optimistic.
