Playwright Genevieve Simon gives a queer twist to 1950s monster-movie tropes and modern environmental crisis in this tale of a nonbinary twentysomething who strikes up an unusual relationship with a creature born of the algae that is taking over the water supply of a conservative midwestern town. Katherine Wilkinson directs the world premiere, which features Smith Alfieri in the central role.
